A friend of mine is at a point where her household in dire straits, and she has some gorgeous yarn that she hand dyes/hand paints here on Etsy. If you can afford a skein, and like it, they are one-of-a-kind that don't get reproduced, and buying it will help to keep her and her mom afloat.
