Jessamine was refusing food yesterday, and refused food and water this morning, so I called the vet. They had her come in, and they noticed - which I didn't, not last night, and not this morning - her skin was bright yellow. And there was nothing they could do there, and it's unlikely, given how acutely this came on, that somewhere larger and better equipped could have given her meaningful quantity and quality of life.
And I cannot cope with knowing death is coming but not knowing when. So I went over to the vet office, and I held her while they put her to sleep. She can chase all the mice, and have all the catnip she wants now.
And we brought her home, and buried her next to the raspberries, wrapped up in her favorite towel.
