30 Day Writing Meme - Days 4 & 5
Jul. 16th, 2011 12:22 am4 – Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?
Any character I've written from the POV of I have a muse for. Strong muses, who push into places they're not meant to be, or demand my attention loudly? Only a few.
Henry of Monmouth is one of the current crop of strong, pushy muses. He's pushy, demanding, and drives me to distraction sometimes, but he's also very good at organizing other muses to get stories written that don't necessarily involve him. It's nice.
Anat is another of the current crop, and you know what? I'll just avoid antagonizing the deity-muse as best as possible, and let her tell me whatever story she likes. On the other hand, she's coaxed Darius out, and she's acquired me a Marcus Constantine muse.
But for the most part, muses wander in and out as they please, and I write where the inspiration is.
5 –If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
If they fit in the story, I write them into it. If they make the story not work, I chase them off with a big stick. Or abandon the story and start from scratch. Either way works.
