Went to see Jupiter Ascending today, and it was awesome. Gorgeous people, costume porn, well-integrated CGI, awesome sci-fi tech, an engaging plot (which was not on the list of reasons I went to watch, so bonus!), plenty to giggle and laugh aloud at, points where I was biting my lip and just glad I already knew Sean Bean’s character would live. Some nicely done understated details that were actually important.
The cast was diverse, the social commentary wasn’t heavy handed, the female characters were absolutely awesome. It did not hurt that Channing Tatum spent a good chunk of the movie shirtless - he is well-shaped and fit without being grotesquely so, and I have a weakness for that aesthetic.
And the importance of friendships, of working together, of reasonable forgiveness, of women wielding power and saving themselves and those around them. Oh. Deities and little demons. Just. I love this movie.
