Writing Update

morgynleriI added a second chapter to Burning Bright, and am most of the way through a third. I have added two new long-stories to the list of things to write in that AU, and a name for the AU (Flame of Durin).
One of the new muses is not entirely sane, could be interpreted as a Mary Sue by the less charitable, and may well need her head checked for delusions of grandeur. The orcs probably know her better than anyone else, and they mostly know her as the one who hunts and kills them for sport. And breeds wargs. And did something to make the very scary Azog. (Because my brain insists on some explanation other than coming from Gundabad as to why Azog is a pale orc, and why that might be passed on to his son Bolg. It decided that they weren't really orcs, but related, and not quite finished when Melkor was defeated.)
Of course, a lot of what I've written of her so far is filtered through the lens of her own self, so it's going to admittedly be biased in her own favor. Who she becomes as interpreted through the eyes of others will probably help tone her down.
The other long-story is a Nori/OC story, and is letting me explore some thoughts on dwarven gender and gender-identity within the context of the AU. The OC identifies female, but she's gendered both (which isn't really the proper term, but bugger-all if I can find a word that works better), and it's a functional gender - she can become pregnant by a male-gendered or both-gendered dwarrow, and she can make a female-gendered or both-gendered dwarrow pregnant. And yes, I'm aware of the potential in this to break brains.
Both of the stories overlap Burning Bright in time-period. There's also a pair of long-stories that straddle the Flame of Durin AU and the Gaearon Rhûnen AU, which are later in time-period, so there may yet be more long-stories spawned by the AU (as well as uncounted short-stories and snippets, because, I can, and sometimes interesting bits bite me).
Beyond Tolkien... I have signed up for hlh_shortcuts this year, as I have every year. Tweaking the sign-up again to suit my current fandoms and tastes. We shall see what I get, when the stories are posted. I have a big bang that mostly involves me editing a story and poking it for a wrap-point. Not an end-point, just a wrap-point. I have a potential for another big bang, if I get enough words to decide to actually sign up for it.
And I think that's about it.
(Update on me? Traveling. Currently in Caid - yes, I know, the mundane-world geography says California, but shh. Hate Nevada, never want to go back there. The Kingdom of the West is awesome. So is Calontir. Going to spend at least two weeks of October in Tucson. May or may not get home to scare the neighborhood kids for Halloween. Birthday was Friday, birthday dinner is sometime in the next week, details TBD. Mm. Am now only three states short of a full complement of fifty visited.)
