Well. That was annoying.

So, someone is being an ass in comments on a fic. Not mine, but one I like and whose author I am fond of. It is past my bedtime, which means I was ruder than I'm likely to be when I'm more rested. Defending the author because this person is doubling down on how it's a bad thing that they got told they were being rude.

They reply to me, and tell me I'm harassing them. Now, they're also pretty much threatening to bring in AO3's staff if I dare to do anything but be a good little author and shut the fuck up and implicit in that acknowledge that because I defend someone else I'm an abuser and harasser and a bully.

Ok. I can ignore them there, and honestly, if I can, I'll probably block their arrogant shit of a self from ever commenting on my stories, but I will not fucking shut up about it.

Also, they called the author's much more polite response to their initial comment harassment by implication, so, you know, I don't think they actually understand what harassment is. Or they do, and they're doing their best to provoke authors into something that they can then run to AO3's staff about and whine that they're being harassed by authors who don't like being pushed around.

(And they did observe I make a habit of defending the author. Which, yes, I do that. Not all the time, and usually only with comments and people who are making comments that seriously breach what I grew up in fandom understanding as proper commenting behavior. Which generally amounts to three or four times a year.)

Hi, so I know you don't know me at all, but I ran across your recent post about personal defenses because Deadcatwithaflamethrower reblogged it (if you need/want, they can vouch for me, Deadcat knows me as Katherine) and then I fell into a hole of your fic on tumblr for a bit, and I love your writing!! But I'm actually commenting to say that I know from personal experience that AO3 staff are wonderful, and even if that person goes whining to them, Support will probably look at things and send the whiner a polite boilerplate "I'm sorry you feel that way, here are some ways you can curate your AO3 experience" letter and see that they were actually the one doing the harassing.

I know intellectually that AO3 staff are likely to support the author/the author's defenders over whiny little trolls, and sometimes I'm willing to continue pointing out to people who like to do that just why it's rude. This time I just didn't have the spoons to keep chewing on them, and they left a bad taste in my mouth.
