Well. That was an unneccessary adventure.
Mar. 23rd, 2020 09:38 pmWhy the slat could not have waited until morning to crack, or have cracked earlier in the evening, I don't know. But of course it waited until dad was already in bed, and it was the one that is the most vital to keeping my bed useful for anything other than sleeping because most of the weight sits on it during the day.
I now have a new slat, and it's a 2-by-4 with notched ends to better handle the weight. And the bed is down to two original slats, two same-as-before replacements, and the mighty slat for the end of the bed most important to using the bed as a seat/desk. And best of all, no more creaky bed!

Date: 2020-03-24 06:06 am (UTC)I was two days off moving house when I sat down on my sofa and a slat broke. I was like, "FINE." Inanimate objects, why so obnoxious?

Although I will grant this bed is 50+ years old, and that the original slats have broken is unsurprising. That only one has broken at a time and years apart is rather awesome. And this isn’t the first time I’ve broken a slat on this end of the bed - last time slats got shuffled and a new one got put in the middle. Better this time that a new one went in place, and a hefty one at that.
