Lorenza sighed as she looked down at her front porch, running one hand through her hair. "What brings you to my home now, Mr. House?" she muttered as she snagged her dressing robe, wrapping it around her as she hurried down the stairs, undoing the trio of deadbolts on the door.

"Get in here, you unwashed, degenerate derelict." Lorenza held the door open, giving House a sharp look as he slowly got to his feet. "Didn't you have a bed at the shelter last night?"

"They kicked me out." House limped into the house, leaving damp footprints behind him, the end of his cane squeaking on the wooden floor. "Something about harassing the imbecile who thinks he talks to god."

Lorenza sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose as she closed the door. "You spent all night on my porch?"

"After they chased me out of the park." House headed for the kitchen as she locked the front door. "It's actually pretty comfortable."

"If you're a healthy adult with enough padding on your bum." Lorenza edged past House as he sat at the small breakfast counter, turning on the kettle. "Which you, clearly, are not." She grabbed her favorite wooden spoon to rap him across the fingers as he reached for her box of cinnamon rolls. "Leave off, you bloody git."

House grimaced, rubbing his knuckles. "I haven't eaten since lunch yesterday."

"I'll feed you, but not my breakfast, House." Lorenza moved the cinnamon rolls out of his reach, opening the bread box to pull out a loaf. "Toast and preserves, and a morning coffee."

"You wouldn't have any Vicodin to follow that with?" House leaned against the counter, his gaze tracking her around the kitchen as she prepared breakfast for them both.

"Run out of puzzles to solve this week?" She reached for the box above her fridge, pulling out a small bottle with a spot of red on the cap. "You usually don't show up for another day and a half. Sometimes two, if I'm lucky."

"Ran into someone I'd rather not."

"The past never really leaves you alone. No matter how hard you run from it." She dropped a pill into his hand, pressing her lips together as he swallowed it. "I might have some work for you today, if you can restrain yourself from making derogatory remarks about the patient."

"One of these days, your habitual kindness is going to land you in a prison cell." House shrugged, grimacing slightly. "What's wrong with whoever you're trying not to send to a regular hospital?"

"I don't know. And she's been to a regular hospital, with no luck determing what it is." Lorenza nodded to the small desk crammed into a corner of her living room. "Her records are in the file in there. You can review them if you'd like, and I'll make sure she knows you're stopping by her flat, so you have lunch and maybe another Vicodin assured."

"Maybe another Vicodin?"

"It is expensive to obtain, and you can't expect me to just give it away." Lorenza gave him a gentle smile that made the coldness in her eyes all the more disturbing. "I am, after all, a business woman. I can't dissapoint the shareholders."

House snorted, reaching for the toast as she set it in front of him. "Dissapointing them would be murder on stock prices."

Lorenza chuckled softly, pulling apart one of her cinnamon rolls. "Indeed, House."
