Title: Dream of a Place Called Home
Rating: PG13
Characters: Rose Tyler, various others
Summary: She's living a fantastic life... or two, or a dozen.

Notes: Another song to remember not to listen to in the wee hours: A Place Called Home, by Kim Richey. It results in a muse showing up that I've not written. She's proving... interesting, so far. All segment titles are pulled from the song. WIP.

Never Landing Any Place to Call My Own
27th century

She set the small pack down at the foot of the bed, running a hand through her hair as she looked around the room a moment. It was sparsely furnished, a table against the wall under the window and the wooden chair the only furnishings beyond the bed. A narrow door stood open, leading to a tiled room as bare as the room she was in. A sink, a more private alcove that she suspected was the loo, and a shower stall.

Nothing fancy, but fancy meant money, and money meant notice. She shook her head, smiling slightly as she tucked the key into her pocket. It would do, for however long she stayed here. Not long enough to get comfortable, but long enough to learn something. Maybe find another piece to a puzzle when she didn't even have an idea what it looked like, or how large it was.

"Meals are at sunrise, sun-high, sun-set, and moon-dark. If you want to eat at other times, you will have to buy your own meals." The propriater stood in the doorway, watching her. "There are linens in the closet at the end of the hall, and the laundry as well. I have a cleaner in here every other day, but you have to do your own laundry."

"Not a problem." She turned, a small smile on her face. "How much?"

"Twenty kep a week."

"A bit pricey for accomodations like this, wouldn't you say?" She raised an eyebrow, knowing bargining was expected. The woman might even be offended if she didn't try to get a better price.

"You will get nothing better at any other place."

"I don't know. Place down the street looked as good, and they said they'd let for fifteen."

"They would steal your bag while you slept, and feed you slop. I keep you safe, and feed you well. Nineteen."

"Mmm." She looked around the room again, tilting her head. "Sixteen. The room's a bit shabby."

"Only because of those who are tight with their money like you. Eighteen."

She shoved her hands in her pockets, fingering the key. "Seventeen and a half, and I'll pay you an extra kep for a warm meal between sun-set and moon-dark."

"A fine bargin, Mada Tyler." The woman broke out into a broad smile, bowing slightly as Rose did the same.

"Indeed a bargin to be sought, Mada Keari." She followed Keari back to the front desk, carefully locking the door behind her. A few lines filled in, and she stepped out into the cool, crisp air of a planet far away from the one she'd grown up on, so many years ago.

A fantastic life, you wanted me to have. How long a life, Doctor?

Part II: Rather Know the Things I Know

Note the second: Rose is definately not a character I've seriously considered writing before. But this song, and the story to go with it, just begs for it to be her. Instead of Jack. Possibly because the singer is female. And this is not the one I'd first had in mind when considering writing for [livejournal.com profile] fandom_me's fest, but... it's one of two that I'm officially attributing to it now.

These have been interesting. I take it Rose has had her lifetime altered by the whole vortex thing as well. I'll be looking forward to reading more.

My muse wants to write Jack & Gwen, but for some reason, I can't seem to write anything but Owen and even thats not that good.

It's definately something I pulled from fandom, and it's fun to play with. Though most of those who play with it use it for reunion fics. And I don't wanna write a reunion fic. *crosses arms defiently*

Well, I figured Something had to have happened. After all, She had the entire Vortex flowing through her and Jack only had it hit him for a few seconds. So I figure she had to at least have an extended life if not immortal herself.

I'm not using that for the reunion fic. Well, I am but not for the purposes of the reunion. That has more to do (at the moment) with thier daughter. But I have to have a reunion because as soon as I saw 10/Rose I was a shipper. Which is odd because while I reconised it with 9/Rose it just wasn't as strong an inclination. Maybe it was because I wasn't that much into the show then. *shrug*

I'm always willing to look over what you have, and give you feedback, if that will help. I am online, just playing dead. Invisible is a wonderful thing sometimes.

Well, at the moment there is nothing to show. I keep deleting what I write. I'm trying to figure out all the plot holes I'm seeing at the moment (Big one being, how can I turn the reunion into a adventure and HOw on earth would Jack and Gwen finally get together because at the start of my planned story they are supposed to be together for a couple of months at least.). There will probably be nothing to write till Friday at the earliest due to Homework (which I should be doing now but I'm a bad student and postponing it to last minute which isn't a great idea).

I love this - and like you I hadn't given Rose much serious thought. But this is just gorgeous and beautiful and perfect.
