Title: Tales From an Multiverse Reporter
Fandom: several, starting with Doctor Who
Rating: PG13
Warnings: None at the moment
Summary: A reporter has been charged with getting interviews with some less than safe people to talk to. In a variety of other universes.

Notes: This would be me having fun with the concept of the character meme. And poking at a relatively new muse. And I'm open to suggestions for other characters for Kyah to interview. And yes, eventually I will work the four responses I had done for the character meme into this. *grins*

Running down her pre-flight check-list, the reporter took a steadying breath, hoping she'd come out of this in one piece. A quick glance at the list of interview subjects her editor wanted her to get a hold of made her discard that idea. Coming out of this with the answers to some questions, and herself still alive would be enough.

Another deep breath, and she toggled her com unit. "This is the Shandi, ready for departure. Requesting permission to initiate dimensional transfer."

"Permission granted, Shandi. Good luck and good hunting."

She shared a short chuckle with the station controller. "All we can hope for, Sarge. I'll see you across the bridge."

"If I don't see you there first, ma'am."

She shook her head slightly as she switched off the com, fingers flying over the controls of the tiny ship. She really should have known better when she took this job, but... she'd never been one to turn down an adventure.

Kyah Hale flipped the final switch, and held on for dear life as the ship shuddered around her, heading for the first of several interviews she'd promised to get.

Even if this was absolute insanity.

Interview One: The Doctor (tenth regeneration)
Timeset 1, Thread 48.3
Doctor's TARDIS, Earth
Local date: 14 June 2198

Kyah draws in a quiet breath as she steps into the control room of the ship she'd nearly landed on top of, meeting the eyes of the man leaning against one of the struts that were spaced out at precise intervals around the edge of the room.

"Doctor?" she asks, a professional smile on her face, and the hand not holding onto her case stretched out to shake his. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir."

He looks at her hand a moment, quirking an eyebrow up in amusement, but not taking it. "I'm sure it is. You said you wanted to ask me some questions. Ask away."

"Of course." Kyah's smile doesn't falter, and she lets her hand drop. "Do you mind if I record the interview, Doctor?"

Shrugging, he waves his hand dismissively. "If you want."

Kyah bites back a tart response to his attitude, smiling a fraction wider at him before setting up her equipment.

"Just one question before you start, Miss...?" The Doctor peers at her quizzically a moment.

"Kyah Hale." Kyah smiles at him again, wishing he would just sit down - it wasn't as if there were a lack of seating in here, even if one didn't really want to sit on the floor. "What did you want to ask me, Doctor?"

"You wouldn't, by any chance, know a blonde shorter than me, runs Gallifrey?"

Kyah glances at her notes, sure that name rings a bell. "Ah, Romana, yes? I'm afraid I've yet to meet her, Doctor." She looks up at the Doctor, certain her face is going to freeze with that smile on her face - not exactly a prospect she likes. "Is there anything about her I should be aware of?"

"Nope." The Doctor makes the last syllable pop, shoving his hands in his pockets as he leans back, watching Kyah closely. "Well, ask away."

Kyah nods, and dials up a quick and random list of questions. Not too many - she's working from a deadline - but enough to get an idea of who the Doctor is for her readers.

Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

"Well..."

He reaches up to rub the back of his neck, grimacing a moment before flashing a bright smile.

"It all depends on what you call annoying, really. Or strange, for that matter. What's strange to you humans isn't always strange to other species, you know. And you lot are all odd little creatures to other species out there. But really, I'm just a Time Lord. Nothing really special, me."

If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

The smile from earlier fades, and he's frowning at Kyah. "I can't change my past," he says flatly, making it clear that moving on would be a good idea.

Kyah is quick to agree.

How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?

"I'm the soul of honesty, me. Never hidden a thing in my life." He's peering suspiciously at her now. "Are you sure Romana didn't send you?"

As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?

"Do we have to bring that up? It's not exactly on my list of the bst times of my life. Well, I suppose you could put the Academy on my list of places that have fond memories, but really, I'd just as soon not talk about it."

He's starting to look agitated, and Kyah quickly asks the next question, before he can start doing something like pacing.

What do you believe makes a successful life?

"Doing what's right, protecting your family, and living through and learning from whatever the universe throws at you. Adventuring, saving the day, that sort of thing, you know what I mean."

He's grinning again, a manic smile that's making Kyah nervous. There are any number of ways she can think of to end up dead, or at least injured, in the company of the Doctor.

When was the time you were the most frightened?

"Next question. I really don't talk about that."

Are you generally introverted or extroverted?

"Oh, extroverted, definitely. Love being around people, they're always so interesting."

How much schooling have you had?

"Oh, years and years. Went off to the Academy at eight, like everyone else, graduated whenI was a little over two hundred. Quite normal for a Time Lord."

Do you care what others think of you?

"There's only a few people who I care enough about to have their opinions matter. Two of them are dead, and I keep thinking you're working for the third. How much of this is Romana going to actually here?"

Kyah sighs, reassuring him that she really doesn't know Romana, and that as far as she knows, none of this will get back to the Time Lady in question.

What do you have in your pockets?

"Ooo, the question Bilbo asked Smeagol! Brilliant, aren't you? Clever little ape." He beams, and leans back against one of the struts of the TARDIS. "Sonic screwdriver, some jelly babies, a handful of assorted coins, a banana, and my hands."

He's holding Kyah's gaze, almost daring her to ask if that's all. "Is this the end of the interview, or would you like some tea?"

She's certain she'd rather have a stiff drink, and Jack Harkness flirting with her, than stay and have tea with the Doctor right now.

Ah, dimensional pockets. Who wouldn't want them. Interesting how the Doctor avoids some of the questions. And I can see Ten speaking when I read, which is always good.
