RULES: Comment and I'll LJ stalk you to find THREE FANDOMS you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them!
01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
mad_jaks gave me:
1) Torchwood
2) Highlander
3) Farscape
Torchwood
What got you into this fandom in the first place?
I'd run through the first series of New Who and wasn't particularly wanting to watch DT as the Doctor, and I'd read Torchwood fic somewhere. So I went looking, and watched the first series in two days. Mainlining thirteen episodes of Torchwood actually was a good thing, because I think if I'd had to wait on any of them, I'd probably not have gotten into it as much.
Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
I'll stick around - like I stick around most of the fandoms I write in. I might not be as rabidly squeeful or as prolific as when I first got into it, but I'm not likely to drop it. I will, however, be adding more fandoms, so yeah, sorta move on.
Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
Hrm. Most of the second series? I really don't have a particular favorite. I have ones I don't like, but not a real favorite. It's all fun, and in the end, it's all pretty, shiny toys to dismantle and put together in new configurations.
Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
I write, I do artwork, I roleplay. I avoid discussions like the plague most of the time, because my reactions are all channelled into the writing.
Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
*shrugs* I'd love to see more people who like to play with AU/crossover/rare pairings/gen fic. But other than that, I'm more likely to just not pay attention to who is and who isn't in the fandom.
Highlander
What got you into this fandom in the first place?
Summer reruns, Methos being snarky and looking out for himself first, but not a ruthlessly evil bastard. And my grandfather not liking it rather made me love it just because of he didn't. But it was Methos that kept me into it, even now.
Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
I've been in it for a decade, and while I'm not prolific, I'm not going anywhere. It's comfortable, it's fun, and I still haven't lost my love of Methos and the concept of Immortals and the historical pieces, and everything else. I may, eventually, but I doubt it. It's still my fandom of choice to circle back to every time I'm annoyed with another fandom.
Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
Anything with Methos. The episodes with Kalas. The episode "Two of Hearts".
Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
I write, I sometimes create icons, I roleplay Methos in two different games. I read fanfic that's Methos-centric obsessively. That's about it.
Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
Yes, because it's interesting and spans history nicely, and crosses with other fandoms fairly well. And it doesn't seem to attract the sort of fan that make me want to reach through the internet and strangle people.
Farscape
What got you into this fandom in the first place?
A character, once more. Captain Bialar Crais. Dark, snarky, with a personal code of honor even if it didn't endear him to the human on the show (who, incidentally, I still don't like).
Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
I'm still playing, but I'm less active than I used to be. I'll probably stay that way, even while I add new fandoms to the list of things I'll play with. Rather like Highlander, honestly, except I don't play as much with it, because the canon's a bit more restrictive in time-span.
Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
Anything with Crais, Rygel, Scorpius, and/or Zhaan in the first three seasons. Anything where I don't want to shove Crichton into a pile of dren.
Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
Much less than I used to. But I was very active in this fandom when I first got into it, for a couple of years. Now, I mostly write and read fic.
Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?
Meh. Yes, I'd like to see more, but mostly like I'd like to see more Torchwood - non mainstream fic. Rare pairings, AU, crossovers, gen-fic.

Date: 2009-05-26 05:01 pm (UTC)Okay, I am not *in* Farscape like I am in other things so I can honestly say - hand on heart - that you are the first person I have ever heard say that!
I seriously had not realised you were so heavily into Highlander. *comes to stalk you*

Date: 2009-05-26 05:32 pm (UTC)Also - Here is all my Highlander Fic
And first person to say I don't like Crichton? Or the first person to describe Crais like that?

Date: 2009-05-26 06:02 pm (UTC)And part of it, I think, is that I like the villains/antagonists/minor characters more than I like the protagonists of most shows or movies I watch. Crais made a very good antagonist for the show (as did Scorpius, who's another one of my favorites), and his biggest appeal is that he's ruthless in his adherence to his own code of ethics, even when they don't mesh with social standards.

Date: 2009-05-27 05:52 am (UTC)And you are right. Sometimes Mainlining a show will make one a fan better then watching one by one. Thats how I was brought back to NCIS. A Marathon on TV.
And I'd like to try this meme out.
