I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's Parker... she likes money and cereal." I'd love it if everyone who's friended me did this. (Yes, even you people who I know really well.) Then post this in your own journal. In return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an answer.

Jan. 29th, 2012 11:45 amBrief rant brought to you by people who have demonstrated cluelessness as to what gen-fic entails.
When you label a fic "gen", it does not include non-canon slash. It does not include non-canon het. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't even contain serious mention of canon romantic relationships, though opinions on that may vary.
And when you label a fic either het or slash on AO3, please, for the love of finding decent gen-fic, don't also label it gen-fic.
*sighs, and goes back to hunting for gen-fic 20k+ words in length*
/rant on gen fic and what isn't gen fic
Also? I'm not really sure I'd call hurt/comfort gen-fic, but it really, really isn't when you're doing John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, with the hurt/comfort an excuse for getting them to realize their feelings for each other. (And the prevalence of hurt/comfort in long Stargate Atlantis fics is... irritating. I like some hurting of people and the comfort after, yes, but not all the bloody time, and I don't like having to always write what I want to read, damnit.)

... If they don't tell me what it is that is on the burner that's being niggled at by a couple of songs that I picked up from watching Bones for the last few days. Although, I do know they're not thinking it'll be something related to the above-mentioned show, if only because I don't have any Bones muses. Yet. I suspect I will be acquiring a Temperance Brennen muse sooner or later. But her? I understand, so. *shrugs*
Anyway. Two songs in question? Running Up That Hill by Placebo, and Bring on the Wonder by Susan Enan. I'm not sure what the songs are niggling at, other than it's something that's probably going to be dished up with a healthy serving of angst, if the emotional ache they're evoking is any cue.
*sighs* I just. Want to find this story and exorcise it before I end up listening to those two songs obsessively over a weekend or something.

Writing and other things
Feb. 18th, 2011 12:53 amA few things.
- Been a while since I had any real inspiration for an actual proper round of
rounds_of_kink. For this round? I have one finished, and another started. Granted, both are the same pairing, and the second follows the morning after the first, but still. Two. And eight prompts listed to possibly make into a linked series. Depending on how generous the muses are.
- Admit Me, Chorus to This History is being a little difficult again, but I know where it's going. And I think I might have an idea on how to get it past the current difficulty (other than simply skipping about a year's worth of time). We'll see how it works, and if it doesn't, then I'll go to plan B. Which would be that skipping of a year.
- I think I need to find a beta for my
rounds_of_kink stories. Anyone on my flist willing to beta-read some kinky (but not always smutty) Iron Man movie-verse fic that's Pepper Potts/Ivan Vanko? Or at least, currently Pepper/Ivan, because there's a distinct chance I'll end up with Tony in there as well at some point.
- This weekend I need to do some cleaning of the apartment. And clean my silverware. And probably run a load through the dishwasher. And definitely do some laundry. And cook the apple crisp and the pear crisp that I've been planning. And the duck. And some sausage gravy and some biscuits before either the sausage or the buttermilk have a chance to go south, as they're both open. And do something with the eggs.
Um, yeah. Lots of stuff with the apartment.
- Need to go through story files and figure out what in there is ready to be posted and I'm willing to post. And then email
auberus with thoughts on ones we've worked on together and I think are ready to post (or be sent to a beta-reader, possibly, though there's a wide range of fandoms, themes, and ratings on those).
- Should work on the story listings. And the website. May or may not get to that.
- Need to poke at Romana and tag on the sandbox thread. And probably the same with Margaret.

So, I'm poking through stuff, because I'm bored. And I am reminded that one of the other historical figures that fascinates me? Is also from the 15th century. And is rather famous himself. *is being amused by her brain*
That makes two, and of other historical figures I find fascinating, one's from the 16th century, and the other is from the 1st century BCE.
Those four people, for those following along at home and outside my head, are Henry V of England, Vlad Dracula, Elizabeth I of England, and Julius Caesar.

Pick a character and I will give and explain the top five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.
AU, RP, and canon characters all welcome, and fandom you think I'm familiar with.

So, on the way home I was thinking (and this was sorta prompted by comments on a fic I was reading before work) that I want Darius-fic. And not Darius-the-priest, but Darius-the-warlord fic. Or possibly something with both, particularly with what elements of personality are persistent from one to the other, regardless of the other changes. Because some of them have to be. Some of the elements of Duncan's personality certainly were when he took the Dark Quickening. So something of what Darius was have to persist.
Which then slid into the idea that a person is the sum of their memories, and what does this mean for Immortals, who acquire new memories with each Quickening they take? Particularly, my brain is screaming, what does that mean for Methos? How much of his ability to become other people is because of lives he's lived in the past, and how much of it is Quickenings he's taken? And in those Quickenings, taken in personalities and memories that can be (or are?) incorporated into who he is.
But to return to Darius... how much of who he was as a warlord persisted, and for that matter, how old was he when he did take that Quickening and change to the point he became the priest we see in canon? And so how much memory had to be overcome with a massive Quickening in order to change who he was?
Also, brain is wanting to play matchmaker with Darius-as-warlord, and I've been telling that plot bunny it will bloody well stay off paper. Or I'm going to end up with a monstrosity that will make me not want to send it to a beta, much less post it. On the other hand, if anyone wants that plot bunny, I'll even send it with a complementary virtual hutch and alien donuts to feed it.
Anyway. *goes to see if she can find fic to satisfy the cravings* And if I can't find some, I may well write some. If I can locate my Darius-muse. Because I know I had one at some point.

Update, some of it about writing
Dec. 8th, 2010 11:07 amBeen a week without internet. Have not written much of Admit Me, Chorus to This History. Have finished my HLH story. Am mostly happy with it, though not as happy as I would be if I'd managed to get the other story done in time. Which I've also worked on, and am aware that it still has at least three plot lines, no end in sight, and I'm still not sure how the three storylines are going to tie into each other yet.
( cut for length and babbling that's almost stream-of-consciousness )
I think that's all for now, and I shall stop babbling and go do some work on a story before I have to get food into the crockpot and ready for work.

Writing update
Nov. 30th, 2010 09:22 pmSo, this month. Wrote 50k on various stories and in story discussion. And then some. Granted, not all alone, but it's still there.
Finally started on my HLH story. Twice, in fact. Neither was the original plot bunny that popped into my head when I saw the assignment. And the one is turning into a bloody novel, so it's getting put on the back burner to sort itself out while I write something shorter, and possibly less what my recipient is looking for. Hopefully it'll work, though. *crosses fingers*
Still am not sure of the end of the second chapter of Admit Me, Chorus to This History. I know what I'm having trouble with, and why I'm having trouble with it, and eventually I will get past the issue with writing the death of a five-month-old infant in the early 15th century. The other death is going to be much easier by comparison. *sighs, and promises herself she'll go back to it after the HLH story is done*
Have done some work on the Great Crossposting and Fic Listing Project, though not as much as I'd like. Probably because I've been a little busy on the getting writing done. Will worry more about it later.
Must remember to get internet for the new apartment ASAP. While the community room has free wi-fi, it closes before I get home at night, so while I'll be able to do things like check my email and stuff, I won't be able to do so late at night when I prefer to. On the other hand, I'll have writing time uninterrupted by distractions on the internet at night until I get it installed.
Which might allow me to map out the rest of Admit Me, Chorus to This History, and perhaps some sketching out of some other things. Fic-of-fic, the plot bunny that ate Humphrey-muse's boots.
Also, will give me some time to unpack stuff mom's bringing up. And get my bed set up. And settle into the apartment. *takes a deep breath* Yeah.
Anyway. I'll end this with the usual note for the sort of Tuesday I've had. Tuesdays suck.

And as I've been pausing liberally for writing of other stuff in the meanwhile, it's now after 1a, and bedtime. Shall have to finish up watching it tomorrow. Morning or evening depends on other things I've got to get done.

Writing Update and a few other things
Oct. 23rd, 2010 06:26 pmTrying to think about updates for what's going on with the writing has been helping me prod at working out things for stories/series/AUs I have, so be aware I'm probably going to start posting a little more often again. And at this point, I'm doing my posting from DW, and crossposting to LJ for my fandom journal. In part, to get myself to use my DW account more.
Right now, working on the AU with a teenage Henry some more, only this time editing the first part, and will continue it through further stuff once done the editing. I'm a bit less fussy about where it's at now, though I'm still trying to figure out how/if this is going to make sense in the context of history. Even a fantasy label only helps me with my headspace so far before I get back to fussy about what I've written, and not being sure it's right (enough).
On the other hand, it does mean I've been doing more research, and have found a useful site to poke at the nobility of the era and their connections and where I'm going to insert certain created characters into the scheme of things. Along with more time-line research because I'm doing some alterations of the timeline, and because I'm just crazy enough to want about every relevant and important event in England and France for the period of the story in the timeline. Even if I don't actually use them in the end. *facepalm*
And Henry is still a very... insistent muse. Though he's been having loud arguments with the chorus of the story, to the amusement and annoyance of any other muse that usually is present. Ah well. At least the arguments usually also mean that I'm going to have something more to write down. I'm a little more comfortable with the beginning of the story now, though I'm not quite sure about the next scene, which should be the last set-up scene before Henry and the female lead meet with the way the new timeline is laid out. I hope. Apparently it might involve putting a loud argument to paper, though at least Henry isn't the second party involved with arguing with the chorus.
I'll have to see, though. Wherever it goes, I'm pretty sure I'm also going to end up with another new character to add to the fun, although all I have for her is an idea who her mother might have been, since I've been prodded by the chorus and company regarding their relations. The chorus has developed serious political ambitions since he first introduced himself to the story.
Anyway. Off to do more writing. Once I separate the muses.
Also, before I forget!
hyarrowen, you are wonderful and I'm glad you took on the story to beta-read, because this is going to be better for some of the suggestions you made.
