Thoughts on Fic

As in, I have quite a bit in progress, I've thoughts on world-building for another alternate history, and I've found myself a couple new muses, a new pairing, and another fandom to play in. And nevermind where that fandom overlaps with history.
The list of fic-in-progress is too long to post here, and will not be. As is the list of fic already finished that needs posted to AO3/uploaded to my website (and let's not start on the rec list, it's long and will be neglected a while longer while I finish getting fic uploaded). There's a couple new things I'm intrigued with and playing with, and there's one old thing that I'm redoing, and hope maybe this time I'll finish.
The latest fandom to give me ideas is Shakespeare... in particular, Henry V. I have managed to acquire in the last week a Henry V muse, a Montjoy muse, and two muses who are living in an AU variant of history that follows Shakespeare up to about, oh, 1422. Or something like that. It's fic of fic, and the plot bunny is looking at 10-20k at the moment. Once I figure out the entire plot. Incidentally, the fic is fic to is Jumping o'er Times, by
hyarrowen. That would also be why I watched Henry V again late last week. And provided me with a new pairing to want more fic of.
That I now have a couple different Highlander/Henry V crossover fics in progress with
auberus, well, that's to be expected when I've been listening to the Henry V soundtrack, as well as having rewatched it. And went hunting the text of the play online so I can once more memorize most of Henry's speeches.
One of those fics has an Immortal Montjoy (the muse is not entertained by this, and blames it all on Henry plotting with Methos over something or another which I still haven't actually heard what all is about). That one is going to involve figuring out what happens if an Immortal like, say, Matthew McCormick, were sworn to uphold the claims of Henry V and his heirs to the English throne (and possibly to the French throne as well).
The other involves an oft-entertaining deity-type muse. Anat, or in this story, The Morrigan, since she's quite adamant that she's both. And more besides, but I haven't had reason to poke at the muse for other potential aspects. Anyway. Her, and again Matthew McCormick (in this case, Matthew, Earl of Salisbury), and in this we get to keep Henry. Sorta. In that he does actually die in 1422, but he doesn't stay that way. Wakes up two days later in Calais, utterly confused about how this happened, and with Matthew there quite aware that he's going to have to get Henry away from things before the king decides to make a rash error. Because most people are not going to accept a two-day-dead man is alive again, and is bloody well still King of England and France. This is making for a slightly (er, maybe more than slightly?) cranky Henry V muse.
Of course, despite the changes those could both cause to history, neither is actually the alternate history I've in mind to play with. Though how I am going to have Henry V not die in 1422, I've not figured out yet. As in, how am I going to have him not die of disease (dysentery, as I recall? must do more research), and how is that going to alter the outcome of the Hundred Years War, or the War of the Roses, or a myriad other things that happen after he dies, both in England and elsewhere. Something I might work on the world-building of while on lunch break tomorrow and the same on Friday. We'll see.
I think that covers new things that have me intrigued and poking at them. The older thing I'm poking at is an old Harry Potter fic of mine. Black, White, and Gray. Editing and rewriting as I go, and hopefully will be able to continue on after I get through editing chapter 8. Which will be a while, since I'm still working on editing of chapter 4. It's... being interesting, because there are details which I'm looking at and going, "Er. That doesn't work." Ah well. I think it's turning out better than it was, and if nothing else, the bits that embarrass me on rereading are being edited out.
And now, I'm to bed, as it is bedtime if I wish to get to work on time. I'm almost glad this job should only last a week.

Date: 2010-10-14 06:49 am (UTC)Although I've had a storyline in mind that I was desperately ignoring, then halfway through writing [what was meant to be] a short, realised that Baal had taken over and was leading into the territory of epicness. Gee, thanks Baal.
So apparently I am writing an AU-from-The-Quest fic that involves Baal kidnapping Sam in order to rescue Daniel and thus prove to the SGC how good he is now
that the Ori are set to take over and he's territory-lessHm. I can do that, but if he thinks that I'm dropping my original NaNo for this, he can sod off.

Date: 2010-10-16 10:27 pm (UTC)Baal's good at utterly ignoring the whims of his authors. AU fic is good, though. And should be entertaining. *has been following along, though she's not had brain enough to write comments to anything, or for that matter, reply to comments most of the week*

Date: 2010-10-14 08:43 am (UTC)You're following a fine tradition. Shakespeare had no problems re-writing history to suit his purposes. And anything that keeps the Yorkists off the throne is fine by me!
