There's a Mirror On the Wall

The resupply is unstaffed, unlike the first one, and the security is familiar and readily bypassed. He finds less money than he likes, but it will be sufficient for a few weeks. The supply of weapons and ammunition is more acceptable, and there is another stash of the meal bars he's been eating. It all fits easily into the borrowed vehicle, and there are no issues in returning to mission control, and securing the weapons in the garden shed with the new lock installed since his arrival.

After returning the vehicle to its original location, he returns to mission control on foot, and finds Aunt awake when he comes up the stairs. She is at the door to Tiny Mission's room, and a hand raised to kock on it. He takes three long steps, and grabs her wrist with his metal hand, holding it securely.

"No. You will not disturb my mission."

Aunt glares at him, though he can see pain behind the anger and hate in her eyes. He must be holding her wrist too tightly. Oops.

"You're both using resources, and selfishly doing nothing to repay us for the roof over your heads or anything else we have provided." Aunt keeps her voice down to a hissing whisper, though he doesn't think it's for Tiny Mission's sake. More likely for the child in the room on the other side of the hall, as not to wake him. "I won't have it any longer."

Eventually I stopped wanting to hibernate yesterday. This morning is chilly again, but less grey than yesterday.

Morning routine is complete except for putting on trousers, and I need to go do laundry. (Procrastinating on laundry because I don't have the spoons for it, but at the same time, I'm running out of trousers. And I don't have the spoons to sew more, either.)

I did get words yesterday, so have a snippet!

"The dead traitor should not be meddling."

The voice makes Sirius spin around, staring at where Kreacher is standing, quietly glaring, beside the door.

"What?"

"The dead traitor heard Kreacher. You should not be meddling."

"I wasn't trying to meddle like that!" Sirius gestures frustratedly at the tapestry, which still feels weirdly smug. How does a bloody tapestry feel smug? "Wait." He blinks, staring back at Kreacher. "You can see me. And you can hear me."

"Of course Kreacher can hear the dead traitor. The dead traitor is family." There's an unspoken sense that Kreacher deeply disapproves of that.

It's a relatively low pain morning, which is nice. There haven't been a lot of them lately as the weather gets colder.

Didn't get any story words yesterday, but got more done on the elven family tree, and got another half a cord done for my sun-in-glories. Once I get that one done, there are still four more to get done for that particular sun-in-glory, and that's going to take at least a week to do, probably more.

I've gotten a fair way through my re-read of thedeadcat's Of a Linear Circle, and there've been places where I've had to stop to cackle delightedly because foreshadowing of things that happen later. Or stop because something suddenly clicks, and augh.

(It's an awesome series and I highly recommend reading it, because just. *happy flailing and squee* Yes, it's Harry Potter, but dear fuck, it's Harry Potter done better than canon. So. Much. Better.)

Gonna get my hair brushed today, and while I don't have enough hair ties to do what I want to do with it, I'll at least tie it back again after.

Anyway. That's this morning, and once again, if I get any story words today, I'll see about a snippet. :D

Day 1 (Star Wars, Emperor Dooku AU, Anakin and tiny!Leia and tiny!Luke, storytelling):

"And what story did you ask your father to tell you?" Padmé carries him back over to the low table Anakin and Obi-Wan were sitting at, with Leia curled up in her father’s lap, leaning against him with her head on his shoulder.

"The story about how Uncle Qui-Gon met the Empress." Leia shifts, poking Anakin in the arm when he opens his mouth, looking up at him with solemn eyes. "You promised."

"I did." Anakin smiles ruefully, as Padmé settles on the cushion left empty between him and Obi-Wan, Luke immediately moving to lean into Anakin’s side. It’s a familiar sight, whether Anakin or Obi-Wan, or even herself. "I was told the story shortly after I’d come to Coruscant."

"After the Jedi turned you away?" Luke frowns, and Leia reaches out to poke her brother in the forehead.

"Yes." Anakin glances over at Obi-Wan, something passing between them that Padmé can never quite grasp, like smoke between her fingers. "But that’s not the story."

Day 2 (Star Wars, Jedi Leia AU, Vader and verytiny!Leia):

Vader doesn’t even dare pace the cabin of his private shuttle, cradling the small infant in his hands who has been staring at him since she woke, small face crumpled into an expression of utter confusion. At least she is not screaming, as she had when she first opened her eyes, and saw him. He wishes he could remove his mask to see her with his own eyes, but he doesn’t dare do so.

In time, perhaps, but not now, with his flesh still healing from Mustafar, and her so very young and vulnerable. No. It will be enough now that he has rescued her from the hands his traitorous former Master had delivered her to, and can find a more appropriate caretaker to watch over her when he cannot be present. Although he hasn’t quite decided on who that might be, since he must be able to trust them not to reveal her existence or location to either Sidious or to Kenobi.

Day 3 (Harry Potter/Stargate Atlantis, City of Magic AU, Millicent Bulstrode and John Sheppard):

There’s silence behind him, and he turns, looking at the set expression on Millicent’s face. “Why didn’t you even leave something that might have given us a clue?”

"Because until Raxus, you didn’t need to know."

"I need to know now."

"You could have a library the size of Atlantis herself, and I still wouldn’t be certain you’d even know what to look for." Millicent crosses her arms over her chest, her jaw set. "I certainly wouldn’t trust you wouldn’t be injured or killed looking for an answer. Not all magic is kind, even when it’s beneficial."

Day 4 (Star Wars, Emperor Dooku AU, Dooku and Criju Berles (OMC, non-Jedi Force-user)):

"It is not often the Jedi show a great interest in our traditions, and most who have are those born to our own while within the Jedi Order’s influence." Berles doesn’t look over at Dooku, keeping his attention outwardly focused on the two younglings circling each other. "I find it interesting that you are curious enough to ask."

"There is no reason not to seek out further knowledge of the Force, regardless of whom I might learn it from." Dooku glances at Berles only briefly, before returning his gaze to his Padawan. "If there are not requirements in learning that would interfere in my responsibilities."

Berles chuckles, rich and deep, waving a dismissive hand. “You are too experienced for a student, though I would not think you are yet worth the title of Stera, even if you are Kenar. Venrof, journyman, still learning but not yet achieved true mastery in the Force.”

Dooku tilts his head to acknowledge the fact. “I am only a Knight, not yet considered a Master when I am yet on my first Padawan.”

Berles hums a moment, then silent briefly before he speaks again. “A flaw, as I see it, in the Jedi thought. How can you teach another when you have yet to master yourself?”

"How can you be certain of your mastery if you are unable to provide another the guidance to follow in your footsteps?" Dooku knows there are Jedi who have not taken Padawans until after they’ve been declared Masters by the Council, but they are more often the exception than the rule, particularly more recently.

Day 5 (Star Wars, Jedi Leia AU, tiny!Leia and Force-ghost!Qui-Gon):

"Did father kill you?"

"No." Qui-Gon takes a breath, smiling sadly at the thought Leia would not know the smiling, laughing, bright boy Anakin had once been. Might never see the good in him unclouded by Vader’s cold rage and bleak hatred. "He was still a little boy, then. Only a little older than you are now."

"Someone killed you, though." Leia looks up at him, her brow drawing down in a small frown as she rubs the fingers of one hand over the other. "Father is sad and angry when he talks to you."

Notes: I don't know if this is entirely finished, but it is finished for now. The characters were deliberately left unnamed. And if anyone wants to take a snippet and make use of it, they're welcome to it.

Haven't done one of these in a while.

Admit Me has gotten another 680 words added to it today, and I think I'll have more on it before I go to bed tonight. I have a good idea where things are going, and I have a history book to give me a hand in research - yes, I know, only one source, but I can only afford to buy one book at a time right now. Shall have to see about other sources later, but for now, the one I have is sufficient for this story.

auberus and I have started another story over the weekend, this one involving Montjoy the herald from Shakespeare's Henry V being an Immortal, and a crossover with Burn Notice. It's proving interesting so far, particularly as I know that at some point I'm going to have to prod at the Montjoy/Henry V dynamic, as it's been driving some of his reactions to Michael in the story.

But Montjoy as an Immortal is actually rather nice to play with - he's certainly easier to work with than Henry, for all that he's quieter and not always as willing to talk. Because when he does, he stays on one subject rather than trying to do everything at once.

But Henry's awake again, hence the more on Admit Me, so all's good anyway.

And yes, am babbling.

Black, White and Gray is almost to the point where I can say I've reached the halfway mark in editing it. Then four more chapters to edit, and hopefully enough more to (1) meet the big bang requirements, and (2) find a point which might be called a stopping point for more than just a chapter, even if it doesn't yet meet back up with the beginning of the story.

Before the end of June. While still working on Admit Me, and the King With Two Crowns alternate history. And whatever project I'm working on with auberus.

I think I can manage it, but it will be entertaining, either way.

As for projects with auberus, there's the one mentioned above, there's a couple that are OCs FTW, and a Caspian-and-Silas post-apocalyptic AU. And several others that I'm still weeding through and figuring out what I think I can finish before sending the list to auberus for her to weed down further. Maybe, just maybe, we'll figure out what'll eventually be finished, what's to be abandoned, and what's ready for beta and what's ready for posting. I hope.

Mm.

And I have one other writing project I do need to eventually finish up, but won't quite yet. And that would be the One Night In Moscow AU, particularly the story that would be regarding the reason I use that name for the AU, and at least one more after Koshka that involves Pepper and Ivan and Tony. And making life very entertaining for them. In ways both good and bad.

Well, ok, really I have a boatload of other projects to work on, but right now I'm attempting to keep myself to three active projects at a time. Even if I'm not certain I'll manage it. *shrugs* I might, at some point, do a list of all the writing projects I have in progress, and then figure out from there what's really abandoned, and what I might poke at again, and what's in desperate need of a blow-torch and heavy editing.

As in, I have quite a bit in progress, I've thoughts on world-building for another alternate history, and I've found myself a couple new muses, a new pairing, and another fandom to play in. And nevermind where that fandom overlaps with history.
