I mean. It depends on how you mean adventurous. Because, really, I have a comfortable zone of things. I like my canon divergence AUs and my crazy crossovers, my found family against the world themes, and my fuck authority and the whole entire fucking concept of "the greater good", my OCs and my queer people and my women and my cracked people who've put themselves back together (sometimes with help) with all sorts of sharp corners. Give me my monsters and my antagonists and their saving the world only because it has the people they love in it. And while some of that can look really out there and adventurous to some people, to me it's just home.

Is this more accidental, or do you have preferences?

A little of both? Part because more women, please, part because fuck gender binary, part not being terribly interested in couples as much as more complex relationships.

Some of my older works are more F/M than anything else because of the more women and less all about the guys getting together. More recently, it's been a lot of sod gender binary, and also sod anyone being actually straight, even if they're in a relationship that would appear straight from the outside. So those numbers are likely to change, with Multi and Other getting more.

Also, I have at least one AU where the primary trio is all women, so hopefully that F/F number will also come up.

Both? Current work in progress is a crossover with Harry Potter, but I tend to cycle through things depending on what I'm currently watching and how exhausted I am by the fandom. Though I keep coming back to Highlander, either by itself or as part of a crossover. Usually involving Methos.

Doesn't surprise me, actually, especially considering that my highest category is gen, and I do tend to go for platonic, professional, or familial relationships over romantic or sexual ones. I'm actually a little surprised one of those IS a romantic relationship. Although not which one. It's got a number of shorts in Agnu Ra Nutû.

On the Slow Path (I've fallen out of that fandom and finishing it would involve a massive rewatch of a lot and I'm not terribly interested in that right now.)

To Rescue Angelus (Fallen out of the fandom, my co-author has fallen off the internet, and that AU is more hers than mine anyway.)

Profiling an Immortal (My co-author has fallen off the internet, and that AU is entirely too many moving parts for me to have the spoons to do on my own.)

In Tarnished Armor may never be finished because I am really rarely interested in the fandom any more, and the canon is closed.

Sideways Glimpses of Alternate Time Streams; Sparks From Mahal's Forge; The Travel Collection; Five + One Things - Boromir; In Verse and Rhyme; Tales of Vinris Rish.... all of these are collections-as-works, and may never be finished because there's always the chance I'll add more. Or I may mark some of them as finished, because Reasons.

Sam Carter

Sam in charge of SG-1. Sam in charge of Atlantis.

Sam having a chance at a romantic relationship that doesn't end in disaster. Or maybe just not pining for a romantic relationship, and being happy without one.

Sam kicking ass, taking names, and being given the recognition she deserves, instead of being shoved to the side in favor of Yet Another White Man.

Sam working with Teal'c more.

Just. Sam being her badass self without people screaming about her being a Mary Sue and horrible for being a competant and intelligent woman. (Which has stuck with me, and still makes me cranky, whether or not that sort of sentiment has died down.)

Julian Bashir

I'd love to see more exploration of Cardassian culture with Garak/Bashir fic, and how to navigate a relationship when both participants are abuse victims whose lies flow like water, who make themselves into their own masks on a regular basis, and whose lies are as important to who they are as anything else.

And I'd love to see how Julian's parents making the decision to remake him has effected his life, and how badly that hurt him, and what it does to his ability to trust anyone, including himself. How it effects his relationships with others.

Hell, I'd love to see some gen-fic Padmé-centric stuff. Where relationships really aren't on her agenda, even if there are people (one or more) who are in love with her.

The Master

More Jacobi!Master!

I'm very fond of the idea of Jacobi!Master, though we got, like, five minutes of him in canon, if that. It ends up on the same platform as "give me more Dooku-as-played-by-Christopher-Lee, and less Dooku-as-directed-by-George-Lucas fic, damnit", except it's "give me more Jacobi!Master, and please, for love of all that's holy, do not give me more Simm!Master".

*sighs* On the other hand, I haven't been a lot into Doctor Who in years, so there may actually be more of what I want out there that I just haven't gone looking for because I have other fandoms to play in.

What fucking epilogue, please, please, let's pretend that doesn't exist.

Magical America - North and South - that utterly ignores Rowling's racism and poor research.

Hell, more of Magical Africa and Magical Asia and Magical Australia, and how they work, and whether or not the Statute of Secrecy even applies there, and what people who actually live there think about how things would work in different places and with different peoples.

More expansions on minor characters. (Millicent Bulstrode is my favorite, and half of that is because I can do just about anything with her character, and it could readily fit into book-canon or movie-canon.)

AUs which ignore Rowling's expanded universe, and do worldbuilding in a completely different direction.

Nori/Thorin

My muses like to throw things at me that I have no idea what to do with at first, and this started as one of those things. Just. In the AU I had not intended to write more of, it worked, and not because of the other changes I made in that AU. (Agnu Ra Nutû, for those interested.)

I like a Nori who is unapologetic about what and who he is, and isn't going to change for anyone, not even those he loves. I like a Thorin, who while he has all the issues of Durin family FEELS, isn't going to go all sappy or soppy over anyone. Love between them, but neither of them are going to let being in love with each other stop them from doing what they have to do - and making the hard decisions, if it comes to that.

Seeing more of that? Would be awesome. And if it includes a Nori who isn't monogamous, or a third with them, I wouldn't object to pretty much any dwarf who isn't closely related (or non-dwarf characters) being the one involved.

Boromir/Éowyn

The fascination of this pairing is that it can be done without disturbing canon too much - although I will use just about any excuse to keep Boromir alive, and this provides one that works very well for me. And Éowyn isn't going to let being in Gondor and married to Boromir stop her from being a warrior and a damned good one at that. Boromir is (probably) not fool enough to try to stop her from keeping in practice, though he's going to do his best to make sure she never has to use that practice with blade and bow and horse for war.

It's also fun because it's a rare pairing (like the other two here, actually *smiles*), and so most of those who write it are writing stuff that's pretty good. Still, I wish there were just more of it, no matter if it's fitted around canon and Boromir dies, or canon is used as a reference while building an AU around the pairing.

Willow/Methos

I don't think it works with early Willow, but later Willow, the one who is exploring her magic more completely, and who has seen and touched darkness, it works so very well. She's the strength to see Methos's darker side and not flinch away. She's also intelligent enough and powerful enough to intrigue Methos, and that's enough to start from.

Although the AU I'm working with this pairing in skews more toward them as a non-romantic-romance, if that makes sense? There's physical attraction, there's compatibility of minds, there's a friendship, there's even love, but they're never really in love, as it were. Which is honestly the sort of relationship I have the most fun with, anyway.

I'd love to see more of post-series Willow and post-series Methos getting together, even just as friends, and how the relationship develops. Though I'm not terribly interested in them having any sort of shared info-dump (Methos telling Willow about Immortals, Willow telling Methos about demons), but more an unfolding of the exchange of knowledge over time. And more with Willow's magic interacting with Methos's Quickening, and how other people see that working.
